Dartmoor is a National Park dating from 1951. It is 954 sq km, over 33,000 people live there and millions of visitors come every year. The National Park is the largest and wildest area of open country in southern England.
Dartmoor National Park, with wooded gorges, lake reservoirs and rivers, is an amazing place to visit. About half of the terrain is open moorland, 11% is forests and woodland.
There is an annual Dartmoor Guide published by the National Park Authority giving useful information on the Park. The guide also contains "What's On?" supplement with local events and details of walks.
