Eexmouth’s Jack Findel-Hawkins and Sarah Collinge have won through to the last 32 of the British 12-and-under junior nationals at Bournemouth.

Findel-Hawkins was in impressive form to destroy the hopes of all his rivals with the 11-year-old brushing aside local favourites James Barra 6-1, 6-2 and Luke Power 6-1, 6-4 before cruising past Joshua Sapwell (Bedfordshire) 6-1, 6-0.

Sponsored by Bradley Estate Agents and Tombo Sports, Findel-Hawkins has been in sparkling form - winning both the boys’ 14 and 12-and-under singles at the Plymouth Junior Open for the second year running.

Jack could well have created a record in the Exeter & District Men’s League where he is believed to be the youngest ever competitor in the competition.

In his second match for Cranford, he partnered Bruce Wheatley to a clean sheet in the 8-0 defeat of the Dawlish first team that included twins Robert and Peter Elver.

Exmouth’s Sarah Collinge had to work hard to win the Ariel 12-and-under British junior qualifying event at Cardiff, beating former Royal Mail Plymouth Open champion Hannah Bills-Brown (Shrewsbury) 6-7, (5-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in the final round.

After two comfortable wins, Collinge dug deep against the Shropshire County Cup junior in order to keep her British title hopes alive and she now goes through to the final stages at Bournemouth in August.
