From the 28th to the 5th of August Budleigh Festival kicks of a week of music and drama in Budleigh Salterton area. Here’s a snippet of what’s planned, from the Festival website:
“This year’s new look Festival includes music and drama with a wide choice to interest all ages and tastes. If your special pleasure is orchestral, recital, singing, chamber music or drama then you will find that the Festival majors on such interests. Classical, romantic, modern - all is catered for in an eclectic mix of performance including participation in workshops and master classes.
If your interest is world folk music then we can offer Otterton Mill where there are 3 gigs planned by well-known artists. The Sidmouth Folk Week (just a few miles down the coast), starts 4 August, too, so there is a huge variety to choose from. The difficulty will come in selecting those events not to be missed!
The highlight of the week is sure to be the appearance of the internationally known composer and performer Sir Richard Rodney Bennett (more than 40 film credits) who will appear in cabaret with Claire Martin.
Other highlights include a gala evening with Kevin John Hurst and John Lenehan, a concert of Orchestral and Organ music given by the Budleigh Salterton Festival Orchestra, a piano recital by Young-Choon Park, swing by AJ’s Big Band, two celebrated male voice choirs, chamber music represented by Isca Octet and the Newnham string quartet and many more.
Please consider becoming a Friend of the Festival. For a very modest contribution you will receive an invitation to a special Friends only event and valuable early booking and other benefits.”
