A 400-year-old flaming tar barrel tradition has come under threat because the Devon organisers cannot get insurance cover.
Every year in November, burning barrels are rolled through the streets of Ottery St Mary, with some even carried on people’s backs.

If you’re planning on being in the Colyton area during September, the Colyton Goose Fayre is one event not to be missed. Revived in 1980 under the leadership of Colin Pady, the Fayre has been held every year since then on the Saturday closest to Michaelmas.

The 2nd of September sees the beginning of the annual Colyton Carnival. Colyton will play host to a whole week of events, such as raffles, fayres, treasure hunts, bingo and markets. A full list of activities and times can be found on their website here.
