Anglers in Winning Form

October 24, 2006, 9:19 am

Honiton Sea Angling Club members have fished two major inter club competitions in and around the South West this weekend and proved, once again, how successful they are at the local events.

Only last year the club came second in the country in the Nation Federation of Sea Anglers specimen medals, their members catching well over 65 fish above 100 per cent of specimen size.

This weekend saw two teams out fishing the two inter club events, one based at Torbay and one competition at Exmouth.

It was the first year that Honiton had fished in the Torbay Shield, a competition which saw 10 clubs from around the area fishing on one day around Torbay.

This year it was won by Torbay and Babbacombe ASA, but Honiton came home with a third place and also gained the best fish of the event.

Club chairman, Dennis Retter had a Dover Sole of 3-1-0 from Hopes Nose at Torbay. Not bad for being in the competition for the first year.

The other inter club was the Westward Festival fishing event, which saw eight clubs from Devon and North Devon/Somerset fish hard for this sought after trophy.

This year the fishing was around Budleigh Salterton, Ladram Bay and Exmouth.

Honiton have been very successful in the past and this year they won the cup with a nine point lead from Sidmouth SAC who had 30 points.

Dulverton SAC had 28 points for the third spot. Honiton member Mike Spiller also produced the best fish from the boat section with a Garfish.

If anyone would like more information on Honiton SAC they should contact Mike Spiller on (01404) 43397 or look on their website at www.honitonsac.co.uk

The next monthly meeting is at the Honiton Motel on October 19, 8pm and new members are welcome.
