Get Into Pony Racing
January 9, 2007, 11:28 am
PONY RACING - reportedly “Britain’s fastest growing equine sport” - goes from strength to strength.
Countrywide, 68 point-to-points plan to stage pony racing this season, up from 57 in 2006.
Fifteen of these will form the Wessex Series, kicking off with the Vine & Craven meeting at Barbury Racecourse, near Marlborough, on February 17.
The seven Devon and Cornwall area meetings start on February 4 with the Mid Devon event at Black Forest Lodge, near Exeter.
Budding young jockeys with their sights set on competing need to get their ponies fit and - most importantly - qualified to race by going out together with their local hunt at least four times or by attending four working Pony Club rallies up to entry day.
Detailed information appears on the website - www.pointingwessex.co.uk, from Wessex Pony coordinator Rachel Stamp on (01278) 792359 or Devon and Cornwall coordinator Lee Glanville (01752) 830439.
