Tiverton Museum is a museum of Social, Agricultural, Transport and Local History, situated in the town of Tiverton in the County of Devon, England.
The refurbished and redisplayed Authers Gallery, which houses the ‘Tivvy Bumper’ locomotive and other transport artifacts, reopened in April 2006. All the objects, covering the roads, railways and canals of Mid Devon, have been re-displayed and a new raised platform gives visitors a superb birds-eye view of the ‘Tivvy Bumper’. Film clips and an interactive computer bring transport history to life. The designer was Henry Lyndsay from Dulverton.
Visitors can once again climb onto the cab of the ‘Tivvy Bumper’ (GWR loco 1442). There are displays of original tools, signs, station equipment and photographs.
Road transport is represented by a 1981 Leyland Mini, bicycles including a penny farthing, a toll-gate from Willand and many other objects and photographs.
Part of the Grand Western Canal, opened in 1814, remains as a Country Park. The display includes a collection of original equipment, photographs and diagrams of its workings, locks and lifts when it was a working canal.
